The Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act, Public Law 83-566,

authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to provide technical and financial assistance to local communities for planning, directing and implementing the small watershed projects. As a result, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is given authority and leadership for carrying out the small watershed program, in partnership with the Cape Cod Conservation District and Barnstable County Commissioners.
